Wayman Jackson Obituary

Wayman Jackson was born on September 30, 1943, to the late Willie Lee and Edna Johnson Jackson in Gadsden, Alabama.

He was educated in the Etowah County School system.

Wayman was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965 during the Vietnam War era.  He was Honorably discharged in 1967.

He migrated to Los Angeles, California after his discharge where he worked for the City of Los Angeles until his retirement in 2007 in the Road Maintenance Department.

Wayman moved to LaGrange, GA in August 2007 after his retirement. He found a church home at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he was ordained a Deacon and remained a faithful member.

He loved music of all types. His favorite artist was Ray Charles. He was fortunate enough to meet Ray Charles while he lived in Los Angeles. Wayman loved to sing as well. He would break out into a song whenever he could. He was very family oriented and had his 80th birthday party in Florida where he said it was not only his birthday party but a mini family reunion. Wayman was a sharp dresser and had an extensive collection of shoes and hats.

In addition to his parents, Wayman was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kara in 2012. Siblings who also preceded him in death include: James Lewis Jackson, Walter Jackson, Willie Jackson, Jr., Horace Jackson, Jesse Jackson, and Edna Virginia Jackson-Isom.

Wayman is survived by his sons:  Phillip Jackson of the home and Solomon (Kymberly) Jackson, Los Angeles, CA; nine grandchildren; one sister, Rosie Marie Jackson, NC; and several half-brothers and sisters which include:  Belvajean Collom, Ralph Jackson, Jolynda Dobbins, all of Gadsden, AL; Cora Jackson, and Carlton Jackson, both of Franklin, GA; a “special” nephew, Cedric Ogletree of Franklin, GA as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
