W. C. Chapman Obituary

WC Chapman transitioned from this earthly life on September 11, 2020 after fighting the good fight of faith.  He is now resting in the arms of his beloved Savior, Jesus Christ.

WC Chapman was born July 6, 1941 to the late Mr. Clarence Edward Chapman Jr. and the late Lucy Jane Hopper-Chapman.  WC grew up in Attalla, Alabama where he attended Norris High School.  He was avid in all high school sports, whereas he excelled in basketball.  After graduation, he served in the United States Army for several years.  Upon returning home, he worked a short time at a local dry cleaning service until he was employed as a steelworker and remained at Gulf States Steel until it closed.  He then attended Gadsden State Community College briefly where he received a certificate in Woodworking.

He confessed Christ at an early age at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Attalla, Alabama.  In his later years, he occasionally attended Sixteen Street Baptist Church, Gadsden, Alabama.

WC greatly enjoyed watching all sports, especially football.  He was a passionate fan of the college football team, Alabama Crimson Tide.  He also enjoyed gardening, politics, and watching westerns.  He was a stylish dresser and always wanted to look his best when he attended events.  One of WC’s greatest joy was spending time with his family whom he deeply loved.  He always tried to attend all family gatherings especially the annual Alabama-Auburn football game for some good wholesome family rivalry.  In addition to growing some of the most beautiful plants, he spent his pastime crafting wood artifacts such as airplanes with various sports teams’ logo.

He leaves to cherish his memories four children: Angela Borden of West Memphis, AR, Walden Craig Chapman of Silver Springs, MD, William Chapman (Decembria) of Gadsden, AL, and Boris Chapman of Huntsville, AL; five siblings: Sylvia (Ronald) Loyd of Gadsden, AL, Clarence (Sonya) Chapman III of Stone Mountain, GA, Bryan (Katrina) Chapman of Riverside, AL, Milton (Jacqueline) Chapman of Gadsden, AL, and Jasma (Sherman) Smith of Baton Rouge, LA; uncles and aunts, Freddie Chapman of Austin, TX, Frank Chapman of San Bernardino, CA, Robert Chapman, Estelle Mitchell, and Earnestine Goggans all of Gadsden, AL and Gloria Fair of Middletown, OH; long-time companion, Stephanie Whorton of Gadsden, AL; special cousin, Eva Thompson; special friends, Peggy Williams, Betty Davis, Imogene Suttles, Charles Coleman, and Steve Thomas; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
