Shirley “Jean” Morris
Jean, as everyone knew her, was born on September 26, 1950 in Alpine, AL to the union of Isaiah Morris and Annie Laura Dobbins Morris. At an early age she confessed Christ in the Talladega County area, and later in the Etowah County area. She received her formal education in the Talladega County School System where she earned her High School Diploma. Jean went on to earn her certification as a Medical Assistant in Etowah County. She worked in the poultry plant industry for over 20 years. She also worked at Valley foods and Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Jean gave birth to five beautiful children, David D. Morris, Laurence G. Morris, Mathew D. Morris, Latonya M. Mitchell-Powell and Tameka A. Stephens.
She loved spending time with loved ones and cooking. Although she couldn’t drive she found a way to travel to spend time with other family members and to attend family reunions. Jean was such a caring, loving, generous, and passionate person. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was a social butterfly who never met a stranger and was always smiling. One of her favorite things to do was having long phone conversations with her family and friends. Jean was such a special person with an enormously big heart. Her kindness and generosity simply knew no bounds. Her favorite colors were red and black. Although her knowledge about football was limited, she was an avid Alabama football fan. Her hobbies included cooking soul food and watching her favorite television shows. Her favorite things to cook included pigtails, fried chicken, black eyed peas, chicken & dressing, and much more. Her favorite shows included Golden Girls, The Price is Right, Let's Make a Deal, Little House on the Prairie, Young and the Restless, One Life to Live, Bonanza, Paternity Court, Divorce Court, and many more.
She was a very independent person until her health started failing her. As her health began to decline, more and more she continued to defy the odds. Jean had the heart of a lion and SHE WAS A FIGHTER. On April 24, 2023 at 11:16 a.m she answered God’s call and gained her eternal wings.
