The Story of a Difference Maker

A difference maker is an ordinary person who accomplishes extraordinary things by creating positive change in his or her community and in the lives of others. Great men and women are only born for the time they are needed the most and God saw fit to bring into the earth, Jeremy Antwan Bowman, on Friday, May 23, 1980, to make a difference.

Jeremy is the offspring of David Leon Williams and the late Octavia Ruth Bowman. He was born in Pell City, Alabama, and was cultivated as a child in Ragland, Alabama. Jeremy received his formal education and was equipped to be an agent of change in society at Ragland High School. His upbringing instilled in Jeremy at an early age the power of decisions. At the tender age of eleven, Jeremy took the step of faith and surrendered his life to Christ and received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. His faith and gifting grew and was groomed at the Bible Way Church of our Lord Jesus Christ under the leadership of Bishop Mitchell Jordan in Ragland, Alabama. His decision to make Jesus the Lord of his life shaped the trajectory of his destiny – to be a difference maker.

At the age of sixteen, this young man discovered his divine purpose for life, that would help define how he would make a difference in the world. Jeremy’s purpose was in accordance with Luke 4:18-19 (NKJV):

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”

He began his journey proclaiming the Gospel and serving mankind on July 7, 1996. His enthusiastic way of serving, undeniable passion for God, and compassion for people was consistently demonstrated throughout his entire life. This man of God’s dedication to the work of ministry and heart to serve outlined him to be a difference maker. He served as a Bible School Teacher, music ministry director, and visited and laid hands on the sick, and they did recover.

On April 16, 1999, he married the one whom his soul loved, Tiffany Bowman. He was a husband who loved his wife unapologetically, with every fiber in his being. For 23 years, he was a difference maker in his home and family as a husband and wonderful father. To this union, two sons were born, Jeremy Dupree and Javian M. Bowman.

Pastor Jeremy’s impact was not limited to the four walls of the church or his home. His light shinned bright through his smile, distinctive laughter, and unforgettable kindness. For over twenty years, he built his career at City of Lincoln, Attala Water Works, and Gadsden Water Works. This vibrant man, whose life was furnished with extraordinary gifts and talents, shared them with all he encountered. His legacy stands firm through his preaching, love for family, joy he found cultivating nature/landscaping, appreciation of delicious cuisine, and benevolence for people.

Pastor Bowman lived his life in alignment with the words of Jesus found in St.John 9:4, “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day...” He made a difference by serving at Greater Grace of Ashville, Alabama, as the Associate Pastor, New Birth in Pell City, Alabama, and at First Baptist Church Green Pastures under the leadership of Pastor Henry Sterling. Pastor Jeremy Bowman served as the Senior Pastor at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Attalla, Alabama, from 2013-2022. His preaching, teachings, prayers, and progressive style of leadership advanced the church’s holistic health through increased membership, debt cancellation, and outreach initiatives. The difference he made through his ministry and leadership is a mark of impact that will never be erased.

“No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.” — Martin Luther King, Jr.

Pastor Jeremy transitioned from labor to reward on Monday, August 15, 2022. On this side of eternity, with our terrestrial understanding of life, we feel the sting of Pastor Bowman’s early departure. However, we take comfort in knowing the differences he made will have a celestial effect.

Jeremy’s story of making a difference isn’t over here, his legacy will continue to live with and through his family: wife, Tiffany Sentera Looney Bowman; sons, Jeremy Dupree Bowman and Javian Marquis Bowman; father, David Leon Williams; brothers, Jason Leon Williams and Steven Dupree Williams; sister, Casey Williams; father-in-law, Grayling Alan Looney; mother-in-law, Sylvia Davis Looney; sisters-in-law, Erica (Patrick) Vandergrift, Nicole (Jonathan) Woods, Sherrye (Andres)Jones, and Courtney Looney; brother-in-law, Corey Looney; special aunt/mother,
Althea Bowman Parker; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and devoted friends.

“I have fought an excellent fight. I have finished my full course with all my might, and I’ve kept my heart full of faith. There’s a crown of righteousness waiting in heaven for me, and I know that my Lord will reward me on his day of righteous judgment. And this crown is not only waiting for me, but for all who love and long for his unveiling.” II Timothy 4:7-8 (TPT)
