On Monday, January 6th, 2025 Laura Hawkins peacefully answered the call of her Heavenly Father, leaving this world from the comfort of her home.
Laura Hawkins was born on July 24,1944 to the late Robert Dailey and Josephine White.
A proud graduate of Carver High School, Laura’s commitment to education and service was evident early in life. After graduating, she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse, enrolling in nursing school in Selma, Alabama, where she honed her skills and knowledge. Her compassion and dedication to caring for others were the cornerstones of her career, and she made a lasting impact on all those she cared for throughout her nursing journey.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her devoted and loving husband, J. Leon Hawkins Sr., and her three surviving children: Juan (Sandra) Hawkins Sr. of Austin, Texas, La Jean Hawkins of Gadsden, Alabama, and John Leon Hawkins Jr. of Shaker Heights, Ohio. She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Selena (Tazan) Edwards of Gadsden, Alabama, LaSonya White of Gadsden, Alabama, Pretzel Fitzgerald White of Seattle, Washington, and Echo Desayvo Byers of Gadsden, Alabama as well as a host of other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Ralph Ruskin Sr., Julia White Byers, and Leonard White, as well as her cherished children, Valencia Renee Hawkins and Ivan Savoy Hawkins, Sr.
A private service will be held for the family, offering a moment of quiet reflection and remembrance.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Amedisys Home Healthcare for their compassionate and dedicated care during Laura’s final days, as well as to all the caregivers who provided unwavering support, love, and kindness throughout her journey.
