Emma J. (Wright) Melton

Ms. Emma Jewel Wright-Melton was born January 27, 1949, to her loving parents, Howard Wright and Elizabeth Mary Alexander, in Murry Cross, Alabama.

Emma was raised in Gadsden, where she graduated from Carver High School in 1967. She gave her heart to Christ at an early age, a decision that would guide her throughout her life.

Emma was a selfless and devoted soul who would give you the very last of what she had, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and she cherished each of them deeply—especially her sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, son, granddaughter, and great-grandson. Whether it was offering a helping hand, a listening ear, or words of wisdom, Emma’s unwavering support and kindness touched the lives of everyone she met. Her family was her heart, and she would go to any length to ensure their happiness and well-being, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and generosity.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Wright and Elizabeth Mary Alexander; sister, Sarah Love; and two brothers, James Wright and John Alexander, Jr.

Emma answered her call to glory on Saturday, January 4, 2025. She leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Kevin Polk of Gadsden, AL; granddaughter, Asia Polk of Gadsden, AL; great-grandson, Yosohn Pearson of Gadsden, AL; step granddaughter, Arteria Evans of Gadsden, AL; two sisters, Vera Wright of Atlanta, GA, and Cynthia Diane Caselberry of Raleigh, NC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
