Obituary
Sometimes a life comes along and touches many people in more ways than one. Such a life came in the form of Dora Mae Vinson, born on September 4, 1935, in Decatur, Alabama. She was the fifth child born to the union of the late Obediah Vinson and Ethel Wakefield Vinson. Dora Mae received her education from the Decatur public school system, and the family later moved to Gadsden, Alabama, where she attended Carver High School. She was a majorette and a debutante.
In 1965, she was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Warren C. Knowles. She confessed Christ and united with the Shiloh Baptist Church, where she rendered dedicated services for many years. Dora Mae loved the Lord.
She worked in the Gadsden City school system at Gadsden High School from 1967 to 1998. She enjoyed baking, and was a wonderful baker. Her cakes and pies were scrumptious and sought after during the many activities at Shiloh.
She became a faithful member of the Joseph T. Robinson/North 4th Place Community Club. She didn’t talk much, but when she did it was always softly spoken and positive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren C. Knowles, and three siblings, George Vinson, Dorothy Vinson Patrick, and Annie Margaret Vinson.
Dora Mae leaves to cherish her memories: two sister, Earlean Vinson Robinson, of Gadsden, Alabama, and Laura Vinson Glass, of Westland, Michigan; two brothers, Robert Vinson and
Clarence Vinson, of Gadsden, Alabama; one aunt, Mary Vinson, of Barnwell, South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Ann Knowles (Ernest) Price, of Chicago, Illinois; and one brother-in-
law, Leon Knowles, of Gadsden, Alabama. She was blessed with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
