Apostle Maurice K Wright,
“A Servant, A General, A Husband, A Father, A Mentor, A Friend”
Maurice K. Wright, a dynamic and instrumental visionary in the promotion of the Gospel of Christ, went home to be with the Lord on April 6, 2020. Dr. Wright was born on March 1, 1955, in Gadsden, Alabama. The ministry leader, educator, and pioneer elevated the voices of his community and paved the way for future leaders. His commitment to sharing his prophetic voice to the body of Christ is forever treasured among those who knew him best. A true and called mentor to our generation, appointed for such a time as now, Dr. Wright leaves a reputation as a sharp listener and a bridge builder. He deposited a legacy of inspiration to the world.
Dr. Maurice K. Wright served our country in the United States Air Force from 1974-1977. He worked at Goodyear for eleven years. Dr. Wright started his servanthood in ministry as he often spoke of working as an usher at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. He accepted his call into ministry and later began his pastoring at Union Baptist Church. In June 1991, under the divine guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit and following the divine providence of God, Apostle Wright organized, incorporated, and began the "Praise and Worship Center" – United Christian Church, An International Ministry, and Corporation. At UCC, a ministry striving by the grace and Holy Spirit of God to "Build an Effective Team Ministry and Family as We Become a House of Friends." UCC is an oasis in the desert, a place of breakthrough, and a house of intimate worship where the presence of God is tangibly sensed, the love of Christ felt, and the power of the Holy Spirit fills the atmosphere. As an Apostle of God, the vision of Dr. Wright was for a person to find the worship experience at UCC to be one that has structure and order as well as a touch of class, while simultaneously having liberty in the Holy Spirit. The river of God flows mightily in this place, as you will experience God's season of refreshing in your life. That you will leave with ignited passion, a better understanding, and knowing that you experience God is what Dr. Wright envisioned.
Dr. Wright served at United Christian Church, a house of worship where the Word of God goes out with an anointing, authority, and power; and with such clarity and understanding that anyone understood. Apostle Wright's desire alongside the spiritual leaders of UCC was to speak a clear word of prophecy and always instruct the people of God in a perfect way from the Scriptures. The messages of Apostle Wright can be reflected on as "simplicity with powerful truth but full of compassion." "It moves and provokes the hearer to make a decision, to faith, to action, and to believe the impossible is possible.
Apostle Wright, the late Bishop Ernest Palmer, and other pastors helped organize and form the Alabama Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship nearly 25 years ago. He served as Northern District Overseer of Alabama and First Assistant to Bishop Ernest Palmer. Apostle Maurice K. Wright was a Pioneer in the Gospel. He shepherded, mentored, and directed many in the service of Jesus Christ and the Gospel. Apostle Wright was a participant of the ICE (Institute of Clergy Excellence) North Alabama group, serving with several other ministers in a two-year international study practicum. He also collaborated with the Gadsden RLA group. Dr. Wright traveled extensively, domestically and internationally, sharing and teaching the Gospel throughout the world.
Apostle Wright completed Light Institute in Houston, TX, as well as attended Selma University Extension Center and Samford University Extension Center. In 2008, Maurice Wright received an Honorary Doctorate in Theology from North Carolina College of Theology. He was a certified group facilitator through the Overcomers in Christ Institute and the Birmingham Baptist Bible College. He stretched himself internationally preaching around the world. Dr. Wright was the founder and president of North East Alabama College of Theology in Gadsden, Alabama, a satellite school of North Carolina College of Theology. Dr. Wright also served for six years on the Corporate Board of Ability Plus Incorporated in Huntsville, Alabama. He authored the book, Four Stages of Spiritual Growth: From Infancy to Fathers. He was a consultant for Vision Excellence Company and instructor for the Preachers Trainer. Apostle Wright was a community and a worldwide leader who served in many capacities. He was a spiritual son to Apostle Halton "Skip," and Pastor Alicia Horton and served as a vital part of the 7000 More International Covenant Fellowship. Dr. Wright nurtured many as a spiritual father, a spiritual brother, and a mentor to others. His contagious smile, his humble demeanor, and subtle discipline made him approachable to people from all walks of life. Tearing down the divisions in the Body of Christ and impacting the lives and dreams of all he touched, leaving a legacy for those he left behind.
Dr. Maurice K Wright was proceeded in death by his parents Lee and Dorothy Wright, his brother Michael Wright and grandson Dominic "DJ" Gray Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his family: his loving wife, Brenda Faye Wright, children, Tandi (Brian) Kinney, Kabraila Gray, & Urick Wright (Krystal Fitzgerald) and a special son, Dominic Gray. Four beloved grandchildren Bre' Yanah Gray, Breylon Gray, Zion Kinney, and Zoe Kinney. Siblings Gerald Wright, Kenneth Wright, Alan Wright, Kathy (Walter)Brown, and Dyran (Cynthia) Wright. It's difficult to know he has been called home to heaven. We can say of him, "Well done thy good and faithful servant" of God. Well done.
